Nothing special from the bus :).
I planned the trip to New Zealand for many years but I didn't know how to move around without the rented car. Finally, I have made a research and I found that it is quite easy. There are good Intercity buses that go to most interesting places. I checked the timetable and prepared all the journey. I bought all the tickets in advance, from the Airport in Auckland to the airport in Auckland, by the Internet. In fact, it was no need to print the tickets. The drivers have all information on their smartphones, who will get on and out on what stops, it was enough to tell the name.

If you look on the map you will see that the yellow colour is in most places on both islands. From Waitangi, which is on the north, to Milford Sound far south it was 2200 km along the West coast of the South Island and 2100 km along the east coast.
I bought also two bus trips to Wai-o-tapu and Milford Sound. Besides the buses, I used ferries between the islands and a small aeroplane to see the volcanos from above.

Here the view from the bus going to Milford Sound. some people sleeping (we went early in the morning) and behind the window typical view of many sheep. Typical New Zealand.
