Photographer's Note

I'd like to think of this shot as an extreme anti-glamour portrait; if I borrow Luko's idea when he took this picture

This is the subject Manny, Luko, Darren, Marciek et al. will never raise a camera to. Consider this my tribute to their contributions to this site.

It's actually very refreshing to do cow portraits and I don't mean shoving a camera out of a car window as you drive down the road when you see them in the paddock; I mean giving to them the same attention and empathy as one would when doing a portrait of a human being.

That being said, the ultimate failure of this picture though is that it begs one to project a human emotional response that may, in fact, completely misrepresent the motivations and feelings of the calf itself; how many times have we said "ooo that cat's expression is sooo cute!" or "Look! Look! The dog is begging with its paws. It's soooo cute" or "Look! Look! That circus bear is balancing on a ball! It's sooo cute!" We must be careful to not project our own human emotional understandings onto animals for fear of misrepresenting them.
