Photographer's Note

Barcaldine is a small town of 1316, about 520km west of the coastal city of Rockhampton in the Central West of Queensland. Having so many pubs is quite an achievement especially when you realise that there is a 6th one behind me. The remarkable thing is that they are so close together on one side of the street with the railway line being one the other side.
In between the pubs there only 1 or 2 other businesses.
One of the pubs, the 3rd one I think, is for sale.
As far as Barcaldine's other claims to fame. This is where a major shearers' strike in the 1890s lead to the start of the Australian Workers Party which went on to become one of our 2 major political parties, the Australian Labor Party.
There is a museum dedicated to workers in the town which is the best of the several museums out through the region heading west from Barcaldine.
