Photographer's Note

This photo of a pumpkin decoration was taken through the window of the long since deserted school in Bodie, CA.

This is an abandoned gold mining town. It is estimated it used to have a population of over 10,000, but a big fire in the early 1900's there was a big fire which destroyed 90% of the town.

Bodie is in a state of "arrested decay". The wonderful thing about this ghost town is that it is not 'developed' at all. There are no snack stands, no "pan for gold for $10". It just stands exactly like it was (with the addition of a couple of supports to stop the buildings from falling over!).

Cropped, USM, colors.
