Photographer's Note

Christmas is almost here, so it’s time to show some holiday scenes from around the city. My first stop was the large department store Macy’s, to see their holiday windows. This year the theme is called “Believe in the Wonder”.

In this particular window there are various neon decorations, and several, small Santas standing on a funky, neon Christmas tree. This is one of the windows that also has an interactive feature. Here a young girl is about to turn the magic key, while her mother takes a photo.

Here are a few facts about the windows:

Macy’s was the first department store to feature Christmas window displays beginning in 1874, and their first animated display was unveiled in 1899.

During peak hours, more than 10,000 people per hour pass by the windows.

Each Christmas window display takes almost a year to create, and it takes three weeks to install them.

In the WS is another one of the windows.
