Photographer's Note

Every year, in mid-September, the neighborhood of Little Italy comes even more alive with the Feast of San Gennaro. The eleven-day festival salutes the patron saint of Naples, and it is packed with food, rides, games, music, and lots of people! It’s estimated that over one million people will visit the feast this year. The festivities take place mainly along Mulberry Street, which is in the heart of Little Italy.

One definite highlight is the food: cannoli, zeppoli, torrone, sausage-and-pepper sandwiches, pizza, pasta, gelato… The list is endless! All of the various restaurants crammed onto the narrow streets compete to pull in customers. I enjoyed a delicious pasta lunch, but what I really loved were the cannoli. They were the best I have ever tasted. :-)

It is difficult to take photos that aren’t chaotic and filled with heads and arms everywhere. I decided to take a chance and post this photo that conveys a bit of the atmosphere. Tinsel with the colors of the Italian flag arch over Mulberry Street, and you can see a glimpse of the Empire State Building in the distance.

In the WS are two more views.
