Photographer's Note

Early morning in Goldfield Ghost Town and it was just me and the ghosts looking east to the Superstition Mountains.

Located on a small hill between the Superstition and Goldfield mountain ranges on the west side of Apache Trail just north of Apache Junction, the settlement of Goldfield got its start in 1892, but died in 1898 as the vein of ore petered out. Resurrected by improved mining and recovery techniques in 1921, it died for the second time in 1926.

The Goldfield Ghost Town was opened as a tourist attraction in 1988 and now boasts many stores, a saloon, a museum, train, brothel, chapel, mine bucket zipline, and a mine tour.

During the day the street is filled with people in period costume, horses, and wagons and there are gunfight shows, but I was alone with my thoughts and the town's spirits.
