Photographer's Note

As I was walking along the rim of Bryce Canyon on a cold fall day, I noticed this tree lit up beautifully by first light of the rising sun. I used the limb of the tree to form a diagonal line overlooking the Bryce Canyon hoodoos. The photograph was exposed to capture the texture in the tree as well as the texture in the Canyon.

Bryce Canyon is located in Southern Utah. To get the best rim shots, one should get up early in the morning and get on location prior to sun up to select your composition. There are numerous locations to shoot from. Sunet Point, Sunrise Point and Inspiration point are some of my favorite locations. Bryce Canyon is located at 9000 feet elevation, so the be prepared for extreme temprature range and thin air.
