Photographer's Note

The short hike to the bridge in Natural Bridge Canyon, is quite easy and one of the most popular. It’s located a third of a mile from the parking area. The bridge is a massive arch of rock joining the canyon walls 35 feet above the wash, about as thick as it is high. This is one of the few bridges in the park and is the largest. There is a deep recess in the north wall which is 8 feet or so above the wash, (top left of photo). Before the bridge was formed, the water flowed along this old channel, but was diverted from a straight path by the harder rock plug that forms the arch. In time, water washed out the gravel from beneath this plug digging a new channel underneath it, forming the bridge.
