Photographer's Note

You may have previously seen photos of Bolsover Castle presented by Bev (Royaldevon). She was the first one to show it on TrekEarth. I spent in the castle a lot of time and yet I am thinking how poorly prepared I was. It Is clear, that some structures, in particular castles, which are built on top of a hill can be better appreciated from a distance rather than being inside. Well I made an attempt to stop my car on the way out and indeed I have seen a wonderful sight of this castle on the hill but the light was not favourable to take a decent photo. I regret so much that I didn’t make another attempt to look for a different angle on that panorama. Too late now.

Looking at my photos of Bolsover Castle I realized that my favourite spot was actually this extraordinary fountain in the courtyard. Now again looking at this composition I see that the fountain looks strangely glued to the tower and one cannot easily visually separate the two structures. The final effect is quite poor. For my defence if I would turn left there would be too much sun coming into the lens, on the right side there were too many people. If I would kneel I wouldn’t be able to see inside of the fountain, and so I felt I don’t have much flexibility to take this shot. When I look at the statue in this picture it really is even hard to tell if the statue is part of the fountain of the tower… Funny effect. Nevertheless, it is my favourite spot from Bolsover so I decided to share it anyway.

This is my first photo from Derbyshire.
