Photographer's Note

After going down the stairs to the pedestrian walkway, I turned back toward Fatih (south) and was impressed by the merging of old and new. The mosque we see to the left of Golden Horn Metro Bridge is Süleymaniye Mosque. Süleymaniye Mosque was built on the order of Süleyman the Magnificent, by the architectural genius Mimar Sinan. The construction work began in 1550 and the mosque was finished in 1557. It is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, and is the second largest mosque in the city.
