Photographer's Note

This photo is taken in the Tyre (or Sour) souk, in South-Lebanon. You can pretty much find everything on sale there, in no particular order, goldsmith, butcher and sportswear store stand side by side.

Despite all that it has to offer, Tyre gets fewer visitors than its neighbour Sidon (Saida), probably due to its proximity to the Israeli border and the relatively recent withdrawal of Israeli troops from South-Lebanon.

A large part of Tyre's coast is protected by law as a Nature Reserve (TCNR). The Reserve covers various areas, some areas are open to the public others are restricted to research and conservation activities. TCNR is probably the only reserve in the world to include a refugee camp whithin its limits (Rashidieh Palestinian camp).
TCNR also has one of the last remaining sandy beaches in the country with rich sand dune formations.
Green turtles and Loggerhead turtles, both endangered sea turtle species come to nest on these beaches.

Tyre harbors many archeological ruins, dating back to the Pheonicians, Greeks and Romans.
