Photographer’s Note
A fantasy landscape scene from Petra, Jordan. This place has to be seen! This is the monastary, carved into the side of a rockface. To get here, you must do a long hike up the rocky mountain - but once at the top, you are rewarded with views of the valley, and this structure.

Hi David,
Isn't Petra the most incredible place? I go to go there when I was in the Navy, I would really like to go back with my digital camera. My photos are all washed out and I don't have the negatives any longer, unfortunately. This is really nice, beautiful winter light falling on the front of the Monastery - if I remember correctly it faces west so you have a sunset, correct? Excellent POV, nice pp.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi David, I like the POV you've chosen for this shot and the light falling on the face of the building is good. You must have had to scramble down to get back to the bottom before the light failed (if my memory is accurate). The texture looks a bit plasticy (if that is a word) and I wonder if a bit too much noise reduction has been applied? cheers, Steve

Hello David,
I like this point of view : very original, it is different from the classical view in front of the monastary.
But I have a strange feeling with the picture : it seems unreal, almost a computer calculated image. This is due to the strange colors in the sky and on the rocks.

Bonjour David,
C'est vrai que ce paysage est superbe.
J'aime bien l'aspect 3D que donne le résultat de la photo sur la façade du monastère.
Cordialement

Hello David
You have indeed created a fantasy landscape. The colourful sky provides a brilliant contrast to the browness of the monastery and surrounding rocky landscape. I would like to visit Petra some day. Tfs, Marlene

Hello David,
A fien view of Petra. You succeeded in avoiding the harsh daylight and brought this view in softer light with great clarity, sharpness and detail. Fine composition which includes also part of the wider landscape.

Paul

David,
This is an amazing scene! Your composition is great here placing the ruins on one side while showing the sky and landscape on the other. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The angle of the light is nice creating warm colors and nice shadows. The sky is great and you have captured it nicely.

Hi David,
What an incredible experience it must have been to see this place in the flesh. It looks quite barren and desolate but well worth the hike.
Just an amazing image, beautifully photographed with just the right amount of post to bring out the best in the capture.
Truly wonderful.

Peter

Hi David,
This fantastic image makes me imagine Earth, Wind & Fire. This has a subtle power that it seems to hear of the sound of Fantasy. Fascinating colour and lighting!

this is a wonderful place. When I was there it was very claudy, and I had a point & shoot camera.... back in 1993.. not so many photos to share here. Your is very good. I like the POV showing the valley below. the PP is good too.
The location is wrong though, Petra is in Maan, not Aqaba.
well done

Hello David,
I am waiting for Indiana Jones jumping into the frame in his horse :), very well composed shot and I think you've done really well with the PP as well.

Awesome. Maybe the best shot I've seen of the Monastary. Great angle, great sky and great PP.
...stop for a cold coke before or after the shot? I'm betting before with that climb.

This is the most romanticized fantastical view of Petra I have ever seen! (That's a compliment). Wow!! The POV is unique (I never knew this building was located in such a setting) and the lighting is so beautiful. It seems to just magically enhance all the rocks and the landscape. Amazing!
