Photographer's Note
After a decent rest and feed, every “family” as a flock start their flight by gaining lift with thermos-dynamic currents, mostly late morning time’s, circling, and each circle is in a higher elevation.
Just imagine several hundred with a loud trumpeting call, lifting from ground in tandem…
First, it all start with small flock, here is quartet grey-gruses ascending.
Than, a larger group gathering and circling to gain thermo-dynamic’s (WS #1), and as a final “Crescendo” - a large “squadron” leaving the field after their leaders, noisey & cover large area overhead (WS #2).
All 3 photos are RAW, main pic. Is F9.0, 1/500, ISO100.
The Hula reservation is at 33.111, 35.593 on the map.

Yesterday I went to see a salt lake in Larnaca. During winter there are flamongos there, but that haven't come yet, unfortunately.

I used to live near the DMZ in Korea and every late Fall it would sadden me to see thousands of birds leave the DMZ & fly south for the winter. The only good that came from the Korean War was that a lot of birds and wildlife moved in where people were no longer allowed to live. Tfs!

Hello Ike,
From the thumbnail, I thought you had been photographing your favourite aeroplanes but these are even more interesting fliers! You have given us a trio of wonderful shots and I just love how they are pictured high in the sky, really giving us a feeling of their elevation. Migrating birds are an amazing part of nature. Well, birds generally are just so interesting. I have feeders in my garden and love to watch their antics which definitely define characters.

Hello Ike You are absolutely right; I saw once vultures hovering very high after a slow ascent, wings extended and immobiles. They were gliding over the Okechobee Lake shore in Florida, seeking for washed-ashore fish. Nice family seen over an atractive dramatic sky. All the best for 2018! Shalom
