Photographer's Note

The enormous bow of the East Indiaman Gotheborg III looms over a shipbuilder and the seeming chaos of construction while in drydock. The ship is a full scale functional replica of the East Indiaman Gotheborg, a tall ship of the Swedish East India Company which hit a rock and sank in the city harbor in 1745 after returning from a historical trade visit to China. Shipbuilders of the replica employ traditional techniques in timber handling and sailmaking.
