Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar (The Basilic of Our Lady of the Pillar) upon the Ebro river, Zaragoza, Spain.

The Cathedral-Basilica has a 2000-year history, although the contemporary baroque building is just some 300 years old, and some towers have been finished in the 20th century.

The sun is rising upon the Ebro and the old Stone Bridge (El Puente de Piedra), I took the photo from the new St James Bridge (El Puente de Santiago).

The level of river is very low, typical for summer-autumn season.

The Basilica has its own story, including two 'unbelievable' things, you may believe or not. I do... God is superior to physics and time.

1. Mary, mother of Jesus, appeared to St James as he was preaching at the banks of the Ebro river. It happened DURING the regular life of Mary, year 40. She offered him a stone pillar asking to build a church on it. A fragment of this pillar can be seen (and adored) in the interior.

2. The miracle of Calanda, i.e. the restoration of an amputated leg to Miguel Pellicer, 1640. The miracle seems to be very well documented and also confirmed by the King Philip IV.

The church is one of the main spiritual centres of Spain and the whole Hispanic World.
