Photographer's Note

While walking on the choir balcony of the Mosteiro dos Jéronimos in Lisbon, my eye was caught by the beautiful symmetries of the interior of the Santa Maria Church - and I stood there in awe, as it always happens to me whenever I find evidence of how skilled human beings can be.
I have to say I fell in love with the Manueline-style architecture (Portuguese late-Gothic) while visiting Lisbon, and this monastery and its church are no exception. I also adore how both natural and artificial lights play inside this church.
This is also the place where to find the tombs of two important Portuguese men: Vasco da Gama, the famous explorer, and Luís de Camões, the famous poet.
And on the pavement just outside the side entrance of Santa Maria church one can also find two marble plaques with the signatures of European Politicians as a reminder of two important documents signed in Lisbon: the Treaty of Accession of the Portuguese Republic to the European Union (12-06-1986) and the Treaty of Lisbon, which set new rules for the European Community (13-12-2007).
