Photographer's Note

A view of one of the slopes of Alfama, supposed to be the oldest part of Lisbon. It's an area filled with churches, restaurants and Fado bars. Alfama has long been a poor working class district, and it still was in 1984 when this photo was taken. According to Wikipedia it has now been spruced up considerably, many buildings being renovated and a lot of new restaurants added.

This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.
