Photographer's Note

I could find little about the history of this rather splendid building other than it once belonged to a nobleman and it contains some ancient Roman baths.

The baths were discovered at the end of 1987, during the archaeological excavations in the oldest part of the town hall building, in Largo do Sertório. They were built between the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

The ruins can be viewed through a glass screen for free by entering the town hall during normal opening hours, but there is no signage to them outside.
