Photographer's Note

On my first day in Porto recently I walked down to the Douro river, just like every other tourist, and on the side of a crowded square a stone's throw from the water I saw these three colourful buildings side by side. Since a woman was standing at her window and another one on her balcony I thought they made a fine combination of people and places.

Here is a larger version.

As I snapped a few photos I had a strong feeling I had seen the same view on TE. Maybe Craig was here? So when I got back home I checked what photos Craig (macjake) had taken in Porto, and indeed he had been here, and the same woman had been standing at her window, 13 months earlier.

Then I checked every photo from Porto for the last ten years (about 900, I believe), and found that she had also been at the window in May 2010, when ecanaveira was here. There were a few more photos of these houses but without the lady.

But going back uphill to the centre of the city I passed a small outdoor photo gallery in a street. I took a few photos, mainly trying to show the pictures on the wall along with the persons watching them. Back at home I noticed the same woman was at the same window in one of the gallery photos in one of my photos.

Since this woman lives above a square packed with tourists every day, I draw the conclusion that she is one of the most photographed "ordinary" persons in all of Portugal. Disregarding of course real celebrities such as popular athletes, artists and leading politicians. She can't compete with Cristiano Ronaldo, I am sure.

Here is a slightly closer look at the red building.

Today I managed to insert the map coordinates, so if you click "Map: view" and drag the little yellow man to the red marker you can see this place for yourself.
