Photographer's Note

The Buçaco forest, and it's history goes back when it was first settled by Benedictine monks in the 6th Century.
In the 17th century, the monks and the government foresters, had planted nearly 400 varieties of trees, shrubs, and flowers while importing some 300 species from as far away as Mexico, Chile, and Japan.
The most noteable event in the forest history was in 1810, as French troops attacked the Duke of Wellington and his army of British and Portuguese soldiers during the unsuccessful Napoleonic invasion of Portugal.
