Photographer's Note

"The Ugly Duckling" (Danish: Den grimme ælling) is a literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875). The story tells of a homely little bird born in a barnyard who suffers abuse from the others around him until, much to his delight (and to the surprise of others), he matures into a beautiful swan, the most beautiful bird of all. The story is beloved around the world as a tale about personal transformation for the better.

Everybody knows this beautiful fairy tale.
But look at the pictures. Are the young swans ugly??

Photos taken in the nature reserve Blue Springs in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Niebieskie Źródła Nature Reserve (lit. Blue Springs) is a nature reserve in Poland[1] just outside the town of Tomaszów Mazowiecki. It is famous for two pools fed by an underground spring which seem to "shimmer" or "ripple" at the bottom due to the action of entering water.[2] The reserve gets its name from the unusual colour of the water. Spring water absorbs red waves, hence the light, reflected from the bottom, has blue-green colour.

The reserve lies next to the Pilica river and is right next to the Open-air museum of Pilica river. The reserve is home to 75 different species of birds.

After hot springs in New Zealand, the cold springs in Poland, also beautiful.
