Frombork is a little town in northern Poland, on the Vistula Lagoon, its population is only 2,500 inhabitants.
The first mention of the town dates from 1278.
Frombork was built as a defensive stronghold protecting the Vistula Lagoon, it is in fact a fortified complex on the top of a hill.
Nicolaus Copernicus (1510 - 1543), a Polish astronomer and mathematician, lived and worked in Frombork, he was a canon of Warmia Chapter, there he wrote his epochal work "De revolutionibus orbium Coelestium".
Shortly after its publication in 1543 Copernicus died there and was buried in the town's cathedral.
