Photographer's Note

We know well how Craig likes all abandoned objects so here is my gift for him - abandoned hotel and fountain in Chisinau, Moldova.
The National Hotel is situated in the center of Chisinau, on one of the main thoroughfares, next to the United Nations Square (Piata Natiunilor Unite), at the upper end of Stefan cel Mare Boulevard. It is the former Intourist Hotel, which was completed in 1978. Consisting of 15 floors was one of the most iconic hotels in Chisinau. Currently, the building is in an advanced state of decay.

I stayed in Hotel Cosmos nearby (see Workshop) , also from the Soviet time but in a better state. You can see a nice mural near it in the Workshop.

Sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova emerged as an independent republic following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, with its economy relying heavily on agriculture.

Two-thirds of Moldovans are of Romanian descent, and the two countries share a common cultural heritage. (BBC). Population 3.5 million. Probably many people, especially in the country, miss the Soviet times.
