Photographer's Note

Typical Umbrian medieval castle, located 13 km from Perugia to Siena on SS 75 bis. The quaint "village", enclosed in its high-walled, almost a kilometer long, still retains many historical and artistic, tangible signs of a once very active community.
Walking along the ring wall you can enjoy a vast panorama, enhanced by the imposing green and the nearby Mount Malbe, ranging from Mount Amiata to Todi, extending from the Trasimeno and Acute Mountain Tezio.
The origins of Corciano can not be reconstructed with accuracy, since there is no certain documentation. Historic Perugia, including the Ciatti, trace the origin of the name Razzeano Ciano, the son of Janus, the founder, the latter, of Perugia. According to legend, contained in the Vatican Codex 4834, was built by Corciano Coragino, traveling companion of Ulysses. The popular tradition, now consolidated, Corciano is that the name simply means "the heart of Janus" .. Arguably, however, is a term coming from Corciano praedial Roman, whose base is the name of Curtius or staff or Latin Coricius Corisius.
In Perugia countryside, given the strategic location, situated near important roads to Rome and the South, represented for Perugia Corciano an advanced defense and was always tied to political events in the city. Despite lacking reliable historical sources on which to build, it can be assumed that the castle, perhaps of Etruscan-Roman origins (a fact some remains at the top of the village and the discovery of an Etruscan necropolis nearby), after the devastating scourge of barbaric invasions , was subjected to the painful yoke of different dominations and certainly did not escape the sad system of serfdom.
