Photographer's Note
Sacro Speco
It is located 14 Km from Narni , in the countryside , about 600 meters above sea level , overlooking the valley. The Speco is formed by a split , 60 m long . in the rock cliff that drops to the valley below.
The first hermits arrived there around 1000 , they found a cave and built a chapel . St. Francis arrived there in 1213 and returned again here listened to the sound of the viola and the angel turned water into wine. and is one of the most authentic Franciscan sanctuaries , not only because it was founded by St. Francis, but because in it you can hear everything that forms the characteristic of the spirit of the saint of Assisi, mysticism , poetry , love, peace .
The place pleased the Holy , a small chapel and a cave and perhaps a hut were the shelter to spend the night . He stopped and left a group of disciples .
The convent was developed with Saint Bernardino of Siena, who built the small cloister, dormitory, whose windows overlook the central part of the building, and the refectory , which you can visit.
In the cloister you can admire the ancient chapel of St. Sylvester , with precious fourteenth-century frescoes . Behind the apse is the well from which water was drawn that Francis turned into wine.
The church of the monastery is the end of 1500, very simple, in the chapel retains a beautiful cross inlaid with mother of pearl , the work of a Franciscan friar , and a cup of the '400 original material with which it is done.
We then climb to the cell of S. Francesco which houses the "bed" : four blocks disconnected . Next door is the chapel with the walls decorated with frescoes reproducing the incidents that occurred in this place. On the left, going out, you look at the big crack in the rock . And ' the Speco , a favorite place to retire to St. Francis in prayer.
In front of the large chestnut tree .
According to tradition , the Holy , before leaving the Speco, raised his arms in salute, singing the beauties of nature and praising God , he planted his staff in the ground , which became vigorous tree and that, after so many centuries , yet seems to want to remember the song , poetry and prayer of the saint.
Closed in 1916 , reopened in 1942. Today, the Hermitage is characterized by being a house of prayer. There is also held parish ministry in the parish of Vasciano . Throughout the monastery enclosure exists , except in the guest house and premises open to the public worship .

Ciao Silvio
Informative note about this place plenty of history to introduce this capture with few contrast because of the menacing sky
Anyway you managed to show the pld building and terrace with space at the front to have a wider view
Like the lampost silhouette at the left
Buona settimana

Ciao Silvio

Saluti

Hello Silvio,
The little bit of light that the heavily overcast sky is letting in allows us to see this little but beautiful chapel. I like the wider view of the cobbled floor from your POV. Thanks fot sharing.

Subho

Hello Silvio,
A splendid capture of this place with a long spiritual history. I like the point of view and the framing. The black and white treatment is very appropriate to the subject and the stormy atmosphere.

Ciao Silvio
Amicalement

Hi Silvio,
The hill is helping to frame the chapel. The point of view is showing a double perspective of the architecture of the Sacro Speco. The cloudy sky is giving darker colours to the scene. Have a nice day.
