Gabbio Ferentillo (TR)
Ancient settlement built parallel to the oldest part of Matterella, on the opposite side east of the hill, outside the walls of the fortress, connected to the only road that connected them exiting from Porta Spoletina. Probably throughout the period from the 10th to the 13th century, Gabbio was a transit and control station for goods, from or to Spoleto.
With the rise of the power of the abbey of San Pietro in Valle Suppegna, the overwhelming power of the city of Spoleto, the Saracen raids, Gabbio increased its military importance due to its location, as evidenced by the remains of walls with loopholes and drains, doors and arches, two remnants of towers and a surviving gate.
