Photographer's Note

Well, this is no Christmas angel, actually. This is the Resurrection Angel on the pinnacle of the sanctuary of St.Finbarre's Cathedral. It's made of copper and gold leaf. It was a gift from the architect of the cathedral, William Burges, who built it in 1870.
The legend says that if this angel ever falls, it will be the end of the world.
So, no Xmas story here? In a sense, there's one. Christmas is the celebration of birth and rebirth (even in the pagan traditions older than Christian ones). And the end of the world is certainly a story of rebirth (after death).
This was shot with my longest zoom, leaning the camera on a lamppost.
PP was quite typical but I added a red filter to colour the sky and give it a Xmas glint ;-)
As WS, the original photo and a rear view of the cathedral for an idea of the real dimensions of the statue.

Merry Christmas to all! Bon Nadal! Joyeux Noël!
