Photographer's Note

The southern part of the Mani Peninsula (Peloponnese) is barren, dry and hot. Formerly, people who lived here were pirates to earn their living, on small terrace fields they cultivated olives and some vegetables.
In the 19th and 20th century, the inhabitants emigrated to larger cities because of poverty, many villages have been abandoned. Today, tourism is developing along the sea shores, but roads are very poor.
Photo taken from the road to Cape Tenaro (Matapan) near Porto Kagio.
