The fort: a place of protection

During attacks, everybody took refuge with the castle, because the enemies began by burning the houses of the farmers. It's for it that the farmers big taxes to the Lord in exchange for their protection. Generally, if the attack hadn't worked,
the used method was the seat. The enemies stayed around the castle and prevented all the supply convoys from approaching it, and it until the inhabitants of the castle exhausted their reserves of food and water. They were then obliged to go(surrender).
The defence In case of attack, when all the farmers had taken refuge with the castle, the harrow was lowered(dimmed) and the gone back up(raised) drawbridge. So that the enemy can go into the castle, he'd to cross(exceed) the fence then the staves(moats). The sentinels who went(took) up the nurse on the covered way got back then quickly to their military post.
The archers and the arbalétriers of the castle pulled(fired) their arrows through the murderesses, but also through the crenellations. They protected themselves from attacks behind hourds. The first firearms weren't much more powerful than bows and crossbows, but the missile which they threw(launched) allowed to drill armors.
To push away(To repel) the men(people) who tried to invade the castle, several soldiers threw(cast) any sorts of materials: some oil, some melted lead(shot), some pitch (soft and sticky Mixture, made by coniferous materials(subjects) or bitumineuses),
stones and even furniture or garbage. If they didn't have materials anymore to be thrown(cast) on their enemies, they tried to push scales(ladders) by means of sticks.
