Photographer's Note

Now for my final posting on this revisit to Bretagne something a little different. The subject of this photo, Le Chȃteau de la Groulais near Blain which isn't in Bretagne but in Pays-de-la-Loire, may or may not have a very distant connection to my family name. My family name (Fegent) originated in Bretagne and was variously spelt Feagent, Feagance, or Fergent – the Fegent only came later after the family moved to England and just before coming to Australia.
If you look in the workshops you’ll see information about the chȃteau. The original was built in 1104 by an Alain Fergent. When we wandered into this chȃteau while we were driving south from Bretagne we were amazed to see the old family name. Alain Fergent and descendants were gone by the 14th century and a new chȃteau was built in the 14th century, the remains of which are the towers in the main photo and one of the workshops.
So just a bit of trivia and I’ll certainly never know whether I’m descended from him. Our name still exists in Bretagne but my attempts to make contact have been unsuccessful.
For some reason TE won't accept the location of Blain.

Best in the large view.
