Photographer's Note
First in a series of captures made during a short break last month in the city of Rennes, the regional capital of Brittany in West France. This is the Palais du Commerce on Place de la République.
Some information from Rennes Tourist Office web site:
The river Vilaine (which paases through the centre of the city) was canalised in the mid-19th century, with a covered stretch between the Nemours and Berlin bridges that was officially opened in 1912 by the mayor Jean Janvier.
An imposing palace was built here between 1885 and 1929 by Jean-Baptiste Martenot and later Emmanuel Le Ray. The building was commissioned by the mayor Edgar Le B.....d to make the southern part of the city more attractive. It originally housed the Trade Exchange and the post and telegraph office.

Good morning,
Quite an impressive building, looks more like a palace, similar to Royal one of Madrid. Well taken urban scene.

What a beautiful building, I really like its architecture and it looks even better in this bright and appealing sidelight. Very well chosen POV and the people in the street add a nice and calm mood.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,

Hello Stephen,
I remember you mentioning to me that the weather was unreliable in Brittany so, I assume that was related to this stay in Rennes.
It is a comparatively big place as seen by the width of its main streets though I'm sure you found some much older regions.
This is one splendid building and your viewpoint details its size and depth as well as the quality of its design and materials.
You controlled the light extremely well, especially as there are a lot of white buildings.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Stephen,
I can't help thinking that this building must have been rather overdimensioned for its purpose right from the start, but sometimes size matters, especially to the state bureaucracy. It serves very well as a photo object with its elegant architecture and on this diagonal with a few persons in the foreground. I find the photo slightly pale.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Stephen,
The length of the street is giving depth and perspective to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the Palais du Commerce. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Stephen,

Buon we

Hello Stephen,
A good angled pov with excellent sharpness and perspective. The trees soften the hard outline of the buildings and the people add scale. I like the clear blue sky backdrop. Tfs!

Hello Stephen,
This is an impressive structure taken from a fitting POV. I am enjoying other details in the photo, such as the (most probably) Muslim woman walking toward you and the two articulated city buses and one regular city bus behind them.
Regards,

Hello again, Stephen.
I am quite impressed with your architectural photos. As many great and classical building photos of the past, you show a vertical perspective correction, so the vertical lines are true (or close to true) vertical. This emphasizes the height of the buildings. Congratulations on this and many other fine shots.
-- Bill
