Photographer's Note

The castle in Nove Mesto nad Metuji was built as a Gothic stronghold at the beginning of the 16th century, it was located on a high rock on the trade route between southern Europe and the Polish Baltic coast. The castle was rebuilt many times, in the 17th century it became a Baroque residence.
In 1908, the castle was bought by Czech industrialist Josef Barton who commissioned the Slovak architect Dusan Jurkovic to renovate the castle. The castle has become a modern residence, decorated in the style of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Cubism and Functionalism. The decorations from the Renaissance and Baroque times have also been restored.
In 1948 it was nationalized, and since 1992 it is owned again by the Barton family, now it is open to the public.
The picture was taken from the castle gardens.
