Photographer’s Note

What you see here is the Romboutswervedijk; one of the most scenic places in Damme. The bended poplar trees (type Maerlandica) are really the top "attraction" here. The Romboutswervedijk used to be a medieval dike to land from the "Zwin". That was a see-arm that came into the town center of Bruges and lateron it sanded up and reached Damme which became very rich because of it. So, on the left of the dike (now a street) there was land on the right there was water. The line of trees in the back on the right are the trees alongside the canal "Damse Vaart" that I (and many others) showed you previously.
The icy wheather makes it look very beautiful but it's not a very natural kind of beautiful. In fact it is frosted smog coming from the belgian inland and the industrial Ruhr area in Germany. It's the second year that we experience this phenomenon. I hope you like the view anyway!
