Museum aan de Stroom - Museum at the River

The Museum aan de Stroom (Museum at the river) is a museum located along the river Scheldt in Antwerp, Belgium. It opened in May 2011 and is the largest museum in Antwerp.

In the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) you’ll become acquainted with Antwerp in the world and with the world in Antwerp. You can discover the city’s rich past, the river and the port. There are breath-taking views of the city.
Antwerp is a city on a river with a port, that has provided encounters and exchanges for centuries. The MAS collects traces of those exchanges and tells new stories with them. Stories about the city, the river and the port. Stories about the world in all its diversity. Stories about Antwerp’s alliance with the world. Become acquainted with Antwerp in the world and with the world in Antwerp.

The building
The MAS radiates water. You notice that as soon as you approach the museum; rippling glass, reflections in the water, and on the roof you can see how the Scheldt River connects Antwerp to the world. It is also a huge, contemporary storehouse inspired by the 19th-century depots that are typical of this neighbourhood.

The façade is made of Indian red sandstone and curved glass panel construction.
