Photographer's Note

Skateboards, baseball caps, mobile phones: all ready for a day in the urban jungle.

After my three ugly photos of "maybe urban art" I had promised something more beautiful, and then I come up with this. I apologize, but when I happened to rediscover this photo from Vienna two years ago, and found out a title I couldn't resist, I just had to show it. I thought it would make a soft change from ugly to less ugly.

I saw these boys coming out of a house in a residential district of Vienna, turning left into the street. When I noticed this painted garage door maybe ten metres ahead I hurried to get there before them. Still I just barely had time to snap this photo in a second or two, so it is far from perfect. Mainly it annoys me that the nearest kid steered away from the others, moving out of focus. On the other hand that is part of being young. When I was their age I was probably out of focus most of the time.

Here is a larger version.

Two more photos of urban kids in Vienna can be seen as workshops, one of very young kids, the other showing three slightly older.
