Photographer's Note

I took this photo in the fishing village of Grande Riviere. It is situated on the north coast of Trinidad and is very isolated from the rest of the islands settlements. In order reach the village you must drive all the way to the east coast of Trinidad and then follow the road which winds along the north east corner of the island and along to the village.

The village receives a fair number of visitors because it is a nesting site for leather back turtles, the second largest site in the world in fact.

I took this photo at sun down. You can see the local fishermen pushing a boat into the sea from the Grande Riviere River.

One of the many things I liked about this village was the enormous sense of community and team work. Income here is restricted to fishing and a small amount of tourism during turtle nesting season. Every body works together in this part of the world and helps each other out. The next morning I saw the same men pulling the boats back in from a night out at sea.
