Photographer's Note

The scanner I bought in 2007 recently broke down completely after being very unreliable for a long time. Sometimes it worked well, other times it just let off a few tired sounds and refused to produce any pictures.

But I still have so many photos stored in boxes in my wardrobe that I haven't seen for decades, so I just had to buy a new scanner this week. When getting to know it I chose photos that I could retrieve fairly easily, among them those from my first journey to Vietnam in 1993. I have posted quite many photos from my journeys in 1995 and 2008 but only a handful from this first journey.

Looking through them now I was surprised, delighted and almost shocked to find so many photos I had more or less forgotten but that were good enough to be shown on TE.

So here I go, starting with three strictly "nothing specials" from the streets of the capital Hanoi.

I was in Hanoi in November, and the weather was fairly dull all the time. Not cold, not very warm, and always a grey sky that looked totally washed out in every photo.

There is very little I can say about the photos. They all show people living their daily lives among gritty old buildings and a lot of bikes. And they were all scanned from Kodachrome slides.

Here is a larger version of the main photo.
