Photographer’s Note
In this my second shot from the 'Phuket Vegetarian Festival'; this devotee or 'Ma Song' (meaning entranced horse) bears the burden of these two Chinese decorative umbrellas pierced through each cheek. This Ma Song would have been pierced this morning at sunrise and would endure this all through the procession to the temple, all in an effort to bestow good fortune.

Hi Dan,
Interesting story why they would put themselves through this. The photo is great with wonderful colours and beautiful details. I like that it almost has a sepia look to it, but yet it's colour. Great work!

Great up-close shot, fantastic shades of brown...but it's the topic that does it here, of course. Cutting edge stuff!

Dan what happens if the wind picks up? Also I am wondering if the umbrella handles are removable to allow the user to be free from them. Again the eyes are not as pronounced as in your first posting, but the colors here are really befitting his skin tones. Again very nicely framed. Good stuff Dan.
On a side note did you eat breakfast before you arrived at this ritual event?
