Photographer's Note

Not being much of a bird-watcher, that was my reaction a couple weekends ago while visiting a wetlands sanctuary here in Singapore.

Admittedly, the only knowledge I had of Kingfisher- was the beer often found accompanying my curry dinner!

Apparently there are over 90 species of Kingfisher located around the world.

They spend majority of their time close to the water fishing, and they don't seem to keen on humans. Most of the Kingfishers I saw were quite far from me, and the ones that were close- were almost impossible to photography through the dense marsh.
Just when I had somewhat given up on photographing one, I happened across this bridge which opened up on one side to this vast marsh area- and sure enough about 20 feet from me was this gem!

I slowly balanced my camera on my monopod (I need something to support the kit- it weighs 4.7 pounds) and managed to snap off a few shots before the bird 'flew the coop'.

My first time visiting a wetlands- and it's not just for the birds. Hahaha

I hope you like the shot,
- Dan
