Photographer's Note

I took this photo walking back across the bridge from seeing the famous Durian-shaped Arts Centre. The plan was to show the purpose-built viewing platform in front of this statue.

The Merlion is a mythical half lion, half fish beast conjured up by Singapore's tourism board. The large statue which spouts water from its mouth was erected at the mouth of the Singapore river in 1972. After the construction of the Esplanade Bridge in 2002, it was moved further out and now sits on the quay in front of the Fullerton building. The bridge leads away from Merlion to the Art Centre with the durian-shaped building.
