Photographer's Note

From my own house a few days ago I move back to long ago, far away. I saw this elderly lady on the grounds of the huge Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon, Burma (nowadays called Yangon, Myanmar) around Christmas time in 1972. I don't know what was on her mind. Maybe she wasn't sad at all, just thinking of something serious.

Since this photo was taken almost 45 years ago, I can probably say with some certainty that she no longer spends her days at this temple, or any other.

As usual I have scanned this from a Kodachrome 64 slide. Here is a larger version.
