Chilika early in the morning just before the fishermen sail out.

Chilika is the largest lagoon along the east coast of India situated at 1-hour drive from Balugaon. The lagoon is a unique assemblage of marine, brackish and fresh water eco-system. On account of its rich bio-diversity, Chilika was designated as a "Ramsar Site", i.e. a wetland of International importance.

The Tata House planned in the early 90ties to build several industrial scale semi-intensive shrimp farms on the shores of Lake Chilika. The fisherman protested against this; protests in which several people got killed. Later via a hard fought court injunction, Tata House was stopped, and its pond construction halted mid-course. This was hailed an important victory, but in reality the victory was short-lived, as smaller scale shrimp farms operated by less noteworthy investors were later quietly and illegally constructed. Over the years, the operation of these smaller shrimp farms has caused many problems for the local residents and environmental degradation for all of Chilika.

A surreal composition Alfred..Everytime i used to pass Chilka through train to Hyderabad.i was wondering and curious to have shots of that lagoon..My train does not stop here.. So shame .. :( .. an awesome composition Alfred u made it here.. I like to go back and stop for sometime there.

Very nice Alfred, the reflections in the water plus the misty background bring your image to life, very good composition and exposure, informative note. Excellent.

A most impressive composition, Alfred. I agree with Sandip that it is surreal. The foreground is moody, everything seems lost in time. In the background, one can detect a figure in a boat, but ever so subtle. A very satisfying shot. Regards.

The sober coloring with the gradiant mist to the horizont is nicely filled in with these boats getting all the attention. The sober tonesetting gives it a peacefull feeling. Nicely done Alfred.

Beautiful, almost monochromatic shot that captures perfectly the beauty and stillness of early morning. It's amazing how the two birds that are so small in the picture really stand out.

I am in love with India too, caused by this picture of yours.

Hello Alfred, it has passed some time since my last visit to your portfolio. This is so beautiful, i like the stillness of the waters, the almost dualtone of the compo and the framing.

Just notice some sun marks in the higher part of the photo maybe result of the sun.
