i'm a lonely but charming little donkey, who's just been dumped by the other donkey in the background. i'm looking for a new soulmate who can match my unmatchable sex appeal.
i'm 3 feet tall, have groovy eyes that can give you a high and a million dollar smile.

i work at the dhobi ghat in varanasi . behind me you can see the GRAND TRUNK ROAD passing over the bridge. this is the longest road in india and was built in the 16th century by sher shah suri and it spanned from patna to peshawar. i know it's in the background, but the photographer is trying out this crazy idea of trying to show the place in a different way, with a humorous scence in the foreground. what an idiot, but who can blame him :)
did i mention i am lonely? :(

note: the photographer shall not be held responsible for the donkey's comments

also note : this image is dedicated to simon who in his endeavour to catch the most romantic scenes is getting husbands beaten by wives wherever he's going. way to go simon!!!

••simon••

He he very funny - I love it...

Another nice one by Sohrab!
Sharp, good tone...just like scanned negatives or ektas, way much more than digits! Keep up the good work.
Hail! Hail!

hilarious!

he is rather cute... but he seems to like YOU best!

this photo made me smile when i was stressing out. good work.

Aah, you didn't dare to go closer! The donkey is tighed up, and is unable to reach you completely. Yes, I think donkey ARE charming, and unlike the provebr, very wise, too.
I like your wide angle here, I got some cow shots like this, almost scary!
I like the note.

So sure have that effect of trigerring romantism, hehe.

man, this is sooo coool, i love it, so close..
but why did you miss the second donkey? the same story as with those bulls before.. a step to left or a second before and the donkey on the right would be in the frame. anyway, this is cool

Very funny monkey:))) Good!

I always try to check different members as much as possible - I like so much the diversity! - But again, the thumbnail was asking to be opened and I discovered it was you.
It can't be only luck to get that hilarious effect? Anyway, after the picture, the note and the link to Simon's picture I simply had to thank you for the smile! ;o)))

Haha, very funny! This picture and your (I mean: donkey's) note really made me laugh a lot! This is a great shot and it has an incredible DoF too. And yes: the donkey really seems to have fallen in love with you. Or perhaps he could see the whole TE-community through the lens of your camera...?

Awesome shot! Choice of B/W fits so well, and the fact that donkey was curious about you and came real close is just amazing! Regards, Djenno

Charming and amusing.

wow - quite a funny and fascinating shot.
It is sharp at all! B&W works very good, too.
Nice composition and POV.
Congrats, Thorsten

luckily there is a shadow to indicate that this thing has a body!
It's full of humour, and made me smile today - thanks.
But go on, tell us all, did the donkey get a kiss?

Yes, he deserves a kiss...pity he is tied up, but at least he will not be a lost donkey! Excellent image that brought a smile in an otherwise wildly hectic day for me! Thanks to Sohrab and Claude and Lisan and a host of others this site has become a real addiction for me....

like it man! very cartoonish! what a POV and wide angle you have here!
well, you were brave to catch the donkey so close, they tend to spit and even bite, and not as gentle as horses!

This one is very funny -- made me laugh so much that I had to say thanks. The skewed perspective with magnified donkey-head and the view of the second donkey's rump disappearing are great.

Now, I know this donkey... single mother, working in a fishing village, melting brown eyes...

Wonderful use of wide angle, great composition and looks very funny with this perspective.

How far can you go with wide angle! Very amusing clever shot Sohab, and fantastic DoF rendering sharp all the details in the background. Very nice work.

first i find out about the tooth challenged guy (http://www.trekearth.com/themes.php?thid=1134), and now this! plus just one more hour at work till the weekend, my fatigue and somber mood is indeed fading away! thanks!

Very funny donkey !
Great one! Like it, goes to favorites ...
Regards
NB: nice trunk road !

Sohrab, so funny and fantastic shot!! The first thing I thought was about the movie "Shrek" and the donkey...
His pose and expression are superb, while reading your note I could really hear him talking.
The only thing that's a pity is the very tight crop in the bottom.
Still, you made a smile in my face this morning :)
take care
Marisa

Why not?!Sohrab!!!:)
nicely done,
Uncritiqueable shot:))
very impressive!
Thanks for sharing.

Yours

Hahahaha! Good one man! Funny shot, and cute note. My one critique is that I wish the space above the donkey were instead used below it (the hoof seems a little close to the bottom of the frame), but whatever man, this is good capture and a nice light change from you!

Sohrab
hahahaha, I am charmed by these eyes and these lashes.
I did not know donkey knew photography as well as you. excellent POV, I like very much.
Pascal

hehe, what a laugh i just got. Wide angles can be so great. You must have been pretty close to get this amount of distortion. I just can't wait untill teh day i can affoad a propper wide angle lence. My 18-55 mm does not really count since it is converted with 1.6. Great but mosre so a funny shot.

saw what you mean by 'intelligent way'.
absolutelly love it!!!great shot!

Hi, Sohrab
I thought i had critiqued this one before, and I certainly remember joking about it (in an e-mail to you)
I am looking at the absolutely magnificent gallery of your Benares shots for the first time, your B&W work conveys the magic of the place more seminally than color shots.

It seems there are millions of pictures coming out of this city in any given day, unfortunately we only catch a few ones. But yours are essential, and as with so many of your shots, your view of the anecdotic always brings up the universal hidden behind it.

That is one happy looking donkey. Great ears too.

This is really nice Sohrab :)
what is the lens?

Suna

Nice note and very interesting shot Sohrab! I was wondering it you chose this angle intentionaly?. Great photo for sure, something very different from the regular varnasi ghat photos! Congratulations & Way to go!

fantastic shot - reallygood composition and overall feel of the scene:)

Loads to learn from.

This photo is soo gorgeous.

The donkey is shot perhaps at the most prefect angle. Makes me want to hug it.

The overall setting and background is great and interesting. The photo is composed well and B&W suits is really well.
One thing I look at with photos of animals is details in the hair. This I think Is done well and the over all sharpness is really nice.

YOu have done a great job with this. TFS

Haha, this one is lovely. The wide angle makes its head look funny, plus your joyous description make it a great photo story. The horizon is just a bit crazy, and it should be for that photo.
Compliments,
Seb

Very funny shot,
I like your b/w choice, very good wide view. I add to my favorite:)
