Part of the circular gates that enclose the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. I've already uploaded a few shots of it. I liked the striking colour contrasts here. I've burned in the slightly oe highlights.

From Wikipedia:

"In ancient China, the Emperor of China was regarded as the Son of Heaven, who administered earthly matters on behalf of, and representing, heavenly authority. To be seen to be showing respect to the source of his authority, in the form of sacrifices to heaven, was extremely important. The temple was built for these ceremonies, mostly comprising prayers for good harvests.

Twice a year the Emperor and all his retinue would move from the Forbidden city through Beijing to encamp within the complex, wearing special robes and abstaining from eating meat. No ordinary Chinese was allowed to view this procession or the following ceremony. In the temple complex the Emperor would personally pray to Heaven for good harvests."

Very nice composition with all these curvy diagonals leading the eye to the same point which leave our imagination to guess what is behind that point. I like it.

Hi, my friend!
Chuna this time. Very oryginal view, interesting composition. Only so many light I think. I like your historical view.

Hello Chris,
This reminds me of a dam I once photographed but that wasn't so nicely decorated!
Good light adding curvy shadow and the deep green forest offers a pleasant colour contrast...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Chris, every angle of this famous landmark is beautiful. You just proved it with this great curved perspective : a magical place !

Hello Chris,
A very nice composition making good use of the curving walkway. I like the shadows thrown by the wall on the left whilst the paving stones make very effective lead-lines. Pleasing soft light and colours. Very good sharpness.

Bonjour Chris,
les belles courbes sont souvent très esthétiques, preuve ici encore avec un travail remarquable de nos cicilasations antiques.
Superbes lumières et couleurs.

regards.
Daniel

Hi Chris,
that double curve has an additional virtual one by the shadow. The colours with that contrast of white and green are pleasant, the red in some spots is a good addition. I just want to make some steps to see what is coming after the curve.

Merhaba Chris,

Curves leading away and converging in the distance often create compelling perspectival compositions. This one is especially effective. I remember seeing the Temple of Heaven in 1983, but I remember spending most of the time studying the inner part of the dome. Using a Kodacolor 800 and pushing it to ISO 3200, I remember seeing colors one could not make out with the naked eye. It was a bit grainy, but in the trade they used to say, you could photograph "a black cat in a coal mine." With digital photography, that should be considerably easier to do now.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hi Chris,
LOL I believed the Chinese had built a slightly more modern stadium for the upcoming Olympics !
That being said, the curve is very nice and exposure of this one is fine.
Have a nice day JY
