Photographer's Note

The owner of the donkey, on the right, is engaged in a tensed bargaining with a potential customer (the grey shoulder on the bottom right...). During all the bargain process, some kinds of "witnesses" surround the two protagonists, commenting the negociation, and helping them to reach an agreement. Finally, the trade occured, the donkey was sold for about 100 US$! And every body was every body's friends...

This is Kashgar's Sunday market, an very impressice open-air market with very few equivalents in the world - maybe none.

Kashgar is in the heartland of the area inhabited by Uygur people - a Turkic Muslim people in China, or "Oriental Turkestan". Here actually you clearly see that people's faces are not chinese, and you see a typical uygur mosque in the background.
