Photographer's Note

Whether it's called non, naan or nan, bread is the lifeblood of the Uyghur diet. Spotted this baker preparing this 'daily bread' somewhere in Yarkand oasis village and it was the sight of the long line of people queuing up to buy the bread from the only village bakery that caught my attention. It was the sight of the bread being baked traditionally in a wood fire fueled tandoor style clay oven.

I surprised him with my presence as no strangers would ever walk into a place like this I guess generally, and after gesturing to the camera he shook his head - 'yes'. Sometimes, when I'm shooting abroad, I see things that are so far from my experience that I just don't know what to do with them. It's just that I can't imagine interrupting a man from his work......

Focused on the essentials under low light condition while trying to isolate as much distractions as possible.

Setting: 300mm, 1/160sec, F8, ISO Raw 100, 0854 hrs
