Photographer's Note

This picture was taken just before twilight in quite poor lighting conditions. It was in Shu He, a small town beside LiJiang in Yunnan, South China (See map link). It was a very special day as it was the end of the torch festical, the small streets of the city were full of burning wooden torch. This event is both touristic and authentic.

This scene was captured during a dog figth organised on the city main square. All the farmers and familiy living around had came to see this event.

I like to watch this picture for the differents faces, moods and glances. I like also to try to guess who is from the same family. After the show, everybody was dancing on traditional music. I keep a very good memory of that night.

Naxi are famous because they had in the past a matriarchal family structure. More information about Nakhi (or Naxi) in wikipedia
