Photographer's Note
The old warehouse district of Huangjeuping is also the current home of the Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts - one of the largest art institutions in China - at least for another week or so. The fact of the matter is that a brand new campus has been established at 'University Town' away from the urban centre of Chongqing proper - the 'town' will house 200,000 students of all disciplines - nicely contained and isolated from the city. It seems double edged - very nice surroundings, beautifully built facilities but so much easier to control student unrest! At least that was my conclusion...and one which I found shared amongst others who knew their recent domestic history. What will happen to the economy of Huangjeuping once all the students go (the new arts campus will house 18,000)? A big new market complex is planned, creative industries may develop in the area, modern high rise apartment blocks are sure to follow....
For me this image has many layers of meaning.....

yes, indeed it has many layers:))) I can congratulate you on finding such place where the face on the wall corresponds with a pedestrian - and what is behind the wall? Hidden poverty - the pic tells the story, which I adore:)

HI Kev,
Your note gives strong meaning to this shot, once again the rise of modern changes occur with good and bad consequences.
I love the framing here, the timimg of his step, the delapidation, and the face on the wall. A great shot.
Regards
Justin

again the juxtaposition does it, a bit closer with the art, and the composition could have been 'more than what meets the eye'..
with the story of the dilapidated building etc..you are in china, we dont get to see china Kev, this is fresh

Hi Kev!
Another wonderful and very interesting documentary photograph, with the best level of sharpness, exposure, pov, black & white, black borders, vertical format and specially composition, with so many eye-catching elements all over this image! Great title too!
That building (house??), the man and the painting on the wall were so perfectly placed together in the frame!
TFS - congrats!
Best regards,
Neyvan

China is indeed one of its kinds: communism submerged in capitalism, therefore i can never understand the dynamics of it.
the face on the wall adds a dreamy effect.
best wishes,
deniz
