Looking back towards Siem Reap (13km distant), with part of Tonle Sap lake on the left, the largest freshwater lake in south-east Asia. This is the end of the bitumen, & my tuk tuk driver declined to drive any further. It's another 6-7 km along a very bumpy & dusty road to the lake proper. Polarized.

'Phnom' is Khmer for 'hill'.

More info here:

http://www.canbypublications.com/siemreap/srothersr.htm

The green on the left is not grass, but water hyacinth floating on top of, & choking part of the lake. Tonle Sap lake rises over a metre during the wet season (September October?) which is why the houses are on stilts. The flood swollen Mekong River effectively dams the lake, which is why it rises.

Interesting shot Chris and in a very good Te spirit. Places like this is for me so distant and different that I enjoy seeing this kind of shots.

Very nice rural life here, I like the row od houses here, I cant see any electrical wires at all, well achieved here, the colours are super

Well done

Nice composition with good depth and colour. Where's the hill ???

The eye is nicely drawn by the line of similarly colored sloping rooftops growing progressively smaller towards the top half of the pic. Though I wish the greens and blues were slightly brighter.

Excellent image of this country, Chris, places like this is for me so distant and different that I enjoy seeing this kind of shots. Very well done!

I like the way that this photo shows settlement patterns - people building alongside the road. Sometimes this is not as apparent from the ground - this overview illustrates that well. Thanks.

Dave

Anything is fine with this picture. Nature has provided excellent viewpoint in this otherwise flat place.
Interesting to see how Khmers here are living along the road - unlike many other cultures.
This picture shows very much, like good music - look once again and see something new!

Very beautiful place Chris ! I love the composition and colours !
Congratulations

I like this arial shot a lot. The road with with sandy edges and houses on both side are the catches of the day. The perspective and the clear view towards the horizon deliver an unforgetable view. This is an excellent shot!

Très beau paysage que tu as su mettre en valeur en prenant cette vue à partir d'une hauteur. La route est parfaitement cadrée. Belle composition Chris !

Excellent view from hill, nice colours and interesting Cambodia architecture, well done
Regards, piotr

Wow, this is an amazing shot, Chris, excellent for TE spirit. The ground is so flat, so I can't think of a hill which you were standing on. Such a classic3rd world shot. Very well done.

That's a beautiful view. How did you get that PoV. Presumably there are boat trips down to it too.

nice picture too, documentary shot, good composition with the road coming from the corner. good work

As I can undertstand villages are build on dikes ( "Digues" in french ) the most "elevated point but it's not enough
( when the Tonge Lap in full ) so the houses are on piles ( "Pilotis" in french )

Hi Chris,
Powerful landscape showing us the living conditions down there. NIce contrast between fields, road and town.
Regards
Daniel

Namaste Chris
This old post of yours jumped out in your into page. I had never seen this view of the Tonle Sap before. From your high POV, this view looks excellent. Wonderful how you've placed the road, leading our eyes with the stilted huts on either side. The colours are excellent too. Thanks for sharing such a different view and a lovely picture
Regards
Angshu
